Antonio Conte provides update on condition after positive Covid-19 test

Antonio Conte has insisted he is feeling 'fine' after testing positive for Covid-19 and expects to be on the touchline for Tottenham's home clash with Brighton on Saturday.

The Italian tactician felt mild symptoms following Spurs' resounding 4-0 win at Aston Villa and returned a positive test on Sunday.

Conte has since been distanced from his players and this week's in-person press conference was cancelled, replaced by a Zoom call where he confirmed that he is feeling better.

“I had my staff, they did a really good job after the game against Aston Villa and the day after I started to feel a bit of mild symptoms, a bit of pain in my throat,” Conte said.

“I asked to have a Covid test and it was positive, but now I’m fine. I’m well and for sure this was a strange week for me and the players, they are used to having sessions with me, but it’s OK because my staff are doing a great job.

“I think on Saturday I will be able to be with my players on the bench given the length of time from my Covid test.”

Tottenham can move six points clear of rivals Arsenal with a win in Saturday's early kick-off ahead of the Gunners' trip to Southampton, with Spurs now in pole position to finish fourth and return to the Champions League after a two-year absence.

Opponents Brighton in fact defeated Arsenal last time out, walking away from the Emirates Stadium as 2-1 winners to hand a second successive loss to Mikel Arteta's side.
