Next season's home shirt was accidentally revealed on the clubs official website on Monday, with the design sparking frantic debate on internet forums and fansites across the web.
An error on the site allowed eagle eyed fans to save and then spread the image of next season's shirt, which will be worn to commemorate the club's 125 year anniversary. Adopting a retro design similar to the home shirt of the 1960s, the club hopes that the shirt will be a fitting tribute to the classic Tottenham style, despite the fact that some fans still hold reservations over the red Mansion logo which they argue too closely associates the club with their 'North' London rivals Arsenal. The shirt was due to be officially unveiled later this month.
Opinions on the design have been flying on our very own message boards, with some posters disappointed by the lack of originality; one poster was disappointed at the prospect of paying £40 'simply for the club to put '125 years' under the badge'. Responding to some fans reservations about the Mansion logo, poster JibJab replied, 'one of our early kits was red. That's the thing with Spurs. Not only do we win most things first, we also have the shirt colour angle covered!'. Joe Bennett, a life long fan from Birmingham, is impressed with the new look: "I like the Puma logo and the badge. However the shirt doesn't matter too much, club legends like Hoddle and Blanchflower would have played in any shirt they were given."
In other news, in a fiercely contested competition, Berbatov's spectacular piece of improvisation at Middlesbrough this weekend came top of Tottenham-mad's poll for the Spurs Goal of the Season (so far). The goal was the Bulgarian's 21st of the season and was voted by visitors to the site ahead of his stunning second goal against Braga in the UEFA cup and Aaron Lennon's memorable finish that clinched victory against Chelsea back in November. With three games left, however, who knows what fantastic goals await the Spurs faithful. With free flowing, attacking football at a premium wherever Spurs pay at the moment, it may well be that we have a new contender for goal of the season before the curtain falls on an eventful campaign.
