Spurs could try and prise Steed Malbranque from Fulham, since any real chance of doing a deal with Middlesbrough for Stewart Downing is seemingly fading fast.
Although Malbranque is on the verge of a switch to West Ham it's believed the midfield player would rather join Tottenham.
However the Frenchman won't make an immediate impact wherever he ends up because he will undergo surgery on a groin problem which could see him out of action for at least the next three weeks.
