Adebayor to miss cup tie

The 30-year-old striker was granted compassionate leave last week as he flew to Ghana for personal reasons, but has since returned to the training ground.

Adebayor's future at White Hart Lane remains unclear and head coach Pochettino admits there is no chance of the former Arsenal and Manchester City man making a comeback in the final eight of the cup.

His last appearance came in a 2-1 loss at home to Stoke on November 9 and he has scored just once in the Premier League this season.

When asked whether Adebayor could be involved against Alan Pardew's side, Pochettino said: "He was back yesterday, but play tomorrow? No.

"He began training after one week yesterday so it would be impossible for him to be ready tomorrow."

Pochettino made 10 changes ahead of a 2-0 victory over Brighton in the previous round, and although he stopped short of confirming more alterations this time out, he did suggest some of those on the fringes of his team could be involved.

"Tomorrow we play the best players to try to go to the semi-final," he said.

"At Tottenham it is not about names, it's about the squad

We have a strong squad

I have confidence in all players

For tomorrow, the players we will play is the best starting 11 to try to go to the semi-final.

"It's important for the club and important for us and our supporters

It's a big game and a very good opportunity to go to a semi-final

We need to create a good platform.

"Newcastle are a very good team

We need to create a nice and great atmosphere to go to the semi-final."
