For his tidiness as the Spurs anchorman Michael Carrick was also man of the match, wrote Rob Hughes in The Sunday Times.
Jol beamed: "Michael mastered the midfield today. We are becoming one of the clubs who live up to expectation. Besides that, you look at the replay of his goal and you wonder where he found the space and the angle to score. You don’t see Claude Makelele score a lot of goals - but there is more in Michael. His goal was unbelievable. His first touch was directly to goal and his second touch everybody thought he would pull it back and he saw a little hole. He saw the possibility to score."
Carrick said: "People have been onto me about scoring my first goal for a while now. I said when I do, hopefully it will mean something - so to get the winner in a game like this was very pleasing. It was a big win and allows us to keep in touch with the leaders. We are pretty happy with where we are at the moment and it is not bad."
