But for those about to clasp their hands in glee over the seemingly imminent departure of Robinson ask yourselves, was he really the central figure in our defensive woes?
It is true he made some errors - some bad ones at that - and I for one think it is time that he moved on. His confidence is shot to pieces and at points last season he had more chance of stopping time than he did a 40 yard daisy cutter.
But, in my opinion, Robinson has become the fall guy for our relegation worthy defence and, unless more changes are made, clean sheets will continue to be in the premium.
The problem lies further up the pitch, mainly in our midfield. Our back four looks solid (when fit) but time and time again it has been cut to ribbons by far than illustrious opponents. Why? Lack of cover; a disjointed and clumsy midfield means even the best of defenders will struggle to keep out goals if shot are flying in from every angle.
It seems that Jenas, Hudd and Zokora don't really know what their game is. Huddlestone and Zokora would be great if they could merge their talents. Zokora quick, agile and determined but often found at the wrong end of the pitch and/or giving the ball away in stupid situations. He initially excited me, but now hold my breath in trepidation every time he gets the ball.
There is no doubting that Huddlestone is a technically gifted player with great vision and an old head on young shoulders, but despite his impressive weight loss he still lacks the bite required for an industrious holding midfielder. Some commentators have suggested that he could be the next Hoddle but up until mid last season the only suggestion I could make was that he had eaten Hoddle.
Coming off the back of his best season. Jenas has done a lot to endear himself to the Lilywhites in the last year. He is a box-to-box midfielder with good skill and a fine range of passing, but what has come to the fore, as many feared, is he is a little better than average and not able to raise his game to the standard of other top flight attacking midfielders.
As the more attacking element to our midfield, Jenas looks set to lose out to the exciting Luka Modric. Which leaves us with the central problem of a defensive midfielder. Who to bring in? A player in the mould of Frings or Poulsen would certainly suit me fine.
If the problem of a lack of steel in midfield is not addressed then we will continue to be a team of flair and style but with no backbone.
