What I find absolutely bizarre is that we were linked with Villa by the press for anywhere between £8 & 12million. However a deal was agreed for around £4.4million. I had always thought what the papers had quoted was high and I for one have always said that I would happily have Villa for a cut deal.
So it seems as always the papers were wrong. Stories have since surfaced to say that members of Tottenham were angered as they could not agree a deal for anywhere near that fee, but it is undoubtedly utter rubbish.
Although I am not devastated or even angry on "missing out" on Villa, but I have always said that having him in our squad would work if we got in some youngsters to learn from him (still at his peak).
Either way all of the press's attention will now turn to Soldado and Benteke, but both of those strikers are expected to cost north of £40million and having already spent £17million just one of them would seem a push.
I certainly have trust in the current setup at the Lane and I wouldn't get too stressed with missing out with the likes of Villa just yet Spurs fans.
