Fenerbahce are now back in for Adebayor, this will supposedly free up £15million.
Roma were interested in Paulinho, but with Baldini leaving and new coach Garica coming in, who knows who their targets now are.
The £15million expected from the sale of Ade will be used to purchase Paulinho.
The three points now get linked together, Ade goes, Baldini comes in, Roma not in contention and Spurs have a clear opportunity to sign Paulinho using Baldini's services. Only problem is that Paulinho has an £18million release clause (suposedly), so we are £3million short in this almost completely flawless merry go round. Oh and the fact that Baldini has not been taken on yet!
However to be a little clearer, Baldini was keen on Paulinho and thus the interest from Roma in the first place. It could very well be that Tottenham are being linked with this because of the whole expected Baldini appointment?
Paulinho was "expected" to sign a pre agreement contract in Italy, but surprisingly this has not been done. Likely as the player is focusing on the Confederations cup, like his team mate Bernard!
I like how these types of rumours are suggested as it almost makes perfect sense.
Problem with it all really though is that its too perfect. It would make sense for Levy and Co to tie this Brazilian up and quickly, but its not his style and the player is on international duty. The one thing that has come out of this has been said by Duilio Alves (Deputy Director at Corinthians);
‘(Tottenham) is a club that we know who has an interest, but nothing official yet. Of course it will come. We expect it in the coming days.
‘Our intention is to keep him but let’s wait and see; if it’s good for him, good for the Corinthians, we will make a decision.’
So the likely scenario is that we are again being used as a bargaining tool and our true targets are kept under lock and key until August 28th.
