After plying his trade and learning in the lower leagues I for one was delighted to see Townsend come up trumps. A local lad that has wanted nothing more than to play for his "local" team.
He has been receiving rave reviews from many pundits and rival fans, but we have to realise that he is not the finished article...... yet.
Andros works very well on the wing and cuts in well skipping past defenders, but there are little things that will need to be ironed out to take him onto the next level.
It’s only two small things, but it's his decision making and passing. Do not take this the wrong way (as it is not intended to "dog" down our latest rising star).
A natural winger should spend as much time in the final third of his wing getting low crosses in and cutting back as he should bring the bal in himself. His decision-making is quick but sometimes he needs to stop for that split second. With his pace and bag of tricks I truly believe he has the beating of most defenses, so with some maturity behind him we will see him flourish. I love that the winger cuts in and shoots (we miss that from Lennon), but the range of passing I feel needs to be worked on, or maybe just knowing which pass to make.
For all the skills you need as player to only have to fine tune 2 areas' shows that this young lad has the great potential to go on further. The England Caps will certainly go a long way to boast the players confidence, but we ask so much so quickly from the youngsters nowadays.
My hope is that Townsend ignores the usual idiots and press, to keep moving forward, with his enthusiasm we could see a very good player in the near future.
