We are yet to see the signing of Eriksen, however De Boer of Ajax has announced that the only thing missing is the players signatures. It is assumed that a medical has passed and all parties expect for this to be tied up today.
Christian Atsu however has joined Chelsea! A player that we were linked with, but not someone that I was ever keen on. Have we missed an opportunity on him? My thoughts are that he wouldn't fit in at ours.
The Bale saga is becoming clearer. Real Madrid are left waiting, it is expected that Tottenham will not complete the deal until after the derby game on Sunday. Levy & co are doing their best to keep any players being sold by Madrid to Arsenal and especially not allowing that to go through before our game. However it seems unlikely for me that Di Maria will leave, but Benzema and Ozil have both said that they do not wish to leave.
So we have broken our transfer record 3 times now Paulinho, then Soldado and now Lamela!
As it stands we have almost spent £100million!
Paulinho £17mill
Chadli £7mill
Capoue £9mill
Soldado £26mill
Chiriches £9mill
Lamel £30mill
With the impending transfer of Eriksen coming in we shall see over £100million spent on what it likely to be a bookies favourite for a top 4 finish this season.
It seems that the Hulk deal has dropped off (good) and the Fabio deal is unlikely to happen with Madrid feeling very hard done by in the search for Bale. However it is expected that we shall replace Ade if he goes to Schalke.
We may still see the likes of Ade leave with Schalke and BAE (although actual suitors have not been mooted), but I do not expect to see anyone else leave other then Bale.
We have sold Parker, Huddlestone, Dempsey and Caulker which has brought in approximately £24million. Once Bale leaves for Madrid we shall see that rise to approximately £110million (which will mean we have only invested the money coming in).
Again if Bale did stay (not that it is likely to happen), we would without a doubt have the best squad in the Premier League and it is unfortunate that we will not seemingly get the opportunity to see Bale play in a squad that without him is still bursting at the seams with talent.
What this window has shown us is that Levy has worked exceptionally hard with Baldini to get a team together that is truly capable of finishing in the top 4, but more importantly without Bale. I commend Levy & Co for a decisive transfer window and I believe we have got a very good team in place now.
For me I see our team now being laid out as below;
Lloris
Walker Vertonghen Kaboul Rose
Sandro Paulinho
Lamela Eriksen Chaldi
Soldado
What is important is our subs bench which would look like this
Friedel, Dawson, Chiriches, Naughton, Demebele, Capoue, Lennon, Carroll, Towsend, Defoe, Ade
So honestly guys and gals can you really say that you are not happy with that squad?
I love that Wenger is trying to move the attention from his poor dealings in the market by stating that our signings will need a while to settle etc etc. Interestingly enough all of our other signings seem pretty settled as it is. I think he should stick to doing what the Arsenal fans expect and get in some signings rather than comment on what has the been best transfer market in our history.
Still 3 days left though so let's see what happens!
