Top 4 is fading

Liverpool flying high with the help of goal machine Suarez are hopeful to add a “big signing”. Man Utd have secured Mata, Chelsea have already signed a “replacement” for Mata in Salah, Arsenal are still hopeful of some movement and City could pop up with anything at any stage.

Tottenham on the other hand........... a big nothing!

In terms of our current team did I think they were capable of securing a top 4 finish? Possibily (not expecting hoping), however with all of the big three and Liverpool all strengthening, where does it leave Tottenham?

Fans moan that further spending should not be expected, however cheap options are available and always have been. A loan move for Luuk De Jong would have been ideal. He is a youngster that has lost his way and a good finish to the season could see him brought back into the National side in time for the World Cup.

My concern is not the lack of spending, but the lack of common sense. The team that has got us to our current position is being weakened; forget that other teams around Tottenham are strengthening. As it stands Tottenham are falling behind once again and it is sheer stupidity and stubbornness. Why is it that the club are demonstrating that the team is good enough, but we have sold Defoe and not replaced him. Signing Berbatov is simply not good enough and no show of ambition. If anything it is a sign that levy does not trust Sherwood, so in this case why put him in.

It is a very dangerous game to play. You cannot rely on luck and hope all the time. The top teams make a plan and do what is necessary to obtain it. Fans can moan all they want about the likes of City and Chelsea, however there is one thing I respect with them.... they do not rely on luck they make things happen. The top clubs are fully aware of what must be done to achieve greatness, but as a club I am starting to question the board at Tottenham’s capabilities and unrealistic targets without the right manager and right players.

With a team beginning to challenge you should not disrupt the rhythm, however Defoe has been sold and the likes of Holtby, Capoue and Chadli seem to be on the way out. Holtby should be loaned, Capoue should not be sold and Chadli I am very undecided on (despite a poor show to date). When others are strengthening it shows a lack of knowledge or complete stubbornness (which is why AVB was sacked!) and you sit on your hands. I can understand that Capoue is not a starter, but he has played well and should be kept in the squad. Holtby is one for the future and has not been given enough to showcase his worth. He should be loaned to a lower placed EPL team and he can find his legs to move into the first team.

Seriously I am waiting for something big. Levy and Co must move for another striker (not a washed up cheap has been are we not PAST THAT!) and keep Holtby and Capoue. Loan moves are the options in my opinion and the reasoning behind it makes sense. Lower costs, a potential agreed permanent move agreed at the first point (if it works sign them up if not send them back).

So where do we stand with a team that potentially is going to be weakened with the sale of 4 players? As my title states in a position of top 4 are fading fast. Oh and to reconfirm the issue Defoe is joint top goal scorer with 10 goals and we have sold him and replaced him with.........?

Every season Levy makes the same stupid mistake in Jan while other know you must strengthen to keep up with other teams alone. If no one else strengthens you still may need to (for catch up alone) and we need to).

So for those that wish to remain blind to this carry on thinking Levy is amazing and that we will luck our way to a top 4. For those sensible fans and people capable of following the current league form and Levy’s history we are in for a VERY bumpy ride.
