Spurs back on track against Soton

Last updated : 20 December 2015 By Hogg

After a poor result against Newcastle last week some fans were expecting a bore draw.

Within the first 15 minutes I was concerned whether we could even keep hold of the ball with Southampton running riot with early shts from Mane and Tadic, but Lloris as always was alert to the danger.

However it was not long before Spurs grew into the game and the instrumental Dembele (without a doubt MOTM) was pulling the strings.

However there was not much to talk about in terms of clear chances until the 40th minute. As the crowd had shouted for 2 seperate bookable fouls Friend waved play on as Kane turned up the pace past 2 of the on looking Southampton defence and skipped past Van Dijk (which was made to look very easy) and then cooly slotted the ball home past Gazzaniga.

The away end had been lively all game with chants at the Southampton fans and a few replies back. As always though it was the Spurs fans that could be heard throughout. So when Kane slotted in the first goal the away end shook as the fans roared and quickly One of Own was sung by all.

Fans were still chanting for Kane and some could have missed the 2nd goal before half time. A double blow for the Saints as Walker was found in what seemed to be an entire half for himself. He ran forward ont the right side and put in a low cross to find Allion the left handside.Gazzaniga was already on the floor and attemping to get up as Dele squeezed in the ball between the keeper and post.

Half time was then an exceptionally lively affair. Going down for a drink you couldn't move and it seemed as all of the fans had come down to cheer. There was cheers, beer and banter flowing freely. Not an angry face could be found as everyone was all smiles! Of course we couldn't wait for the second half to start.

Although the Saints started the second half as well as the first with Pelle looking lively, Lloris again blocking the efforts. That was mostly it from the Saints. As Dembele again took hold of the game and was not just taking the ball forward but winning it back too. Shielding, distributing, tackling, the only thing he was doing today was shooting!

The next notable event was some great work from the lively Lamela. He wins the ball on the right hand side and finds Carroll in the box, the shot was very tame and he should have done better.

At this point it was like a fire drill the Southampton fans were pooring out of the exits, not expecting a last minute flourish from their side.

There was a moment of panic as Kane seemed to have taken a serious knock to the knee, however he was only taken off as a precaution.

Saints then had likely the best chance of the game as Bertrand came down the left and like Walker put in a low cross, only for Pelle to mis-kick, but allowing Ward-Prowse into shoot low down to Lloris's left corner, but the Frenchman pulled off an outstanding save to keep his clean sheet.

Son almost latched onto a poor defensive mistake by Southampton, but was not fast enough onto the ball and Gazzaniga gathers the ball after it ricochet off of him.

All in all a great Xmas present from the team for the fans. A convincing win in some ways, but enough to keep you from really moaning about anything haha.

A great away day for all and glad to see the lads move up into the top 4 for Christmas.
