Firstly we need to speak about our new signings. Soldado scored on his debut, made some great runs and certainly showed his worth. Paulinho got the man of the match and played with confidence in each involvement. Chadli and Capoue did enough to stand out today, but I feel that the two need more time to gel. Given the time, all four new signings will certainly fit well into the premier league and strengthen our team dramatically.
I will not dwell on Clattenburg long, but he made some poor decisions. However the penalty decision was not one of them (despite what Holloway may say).
Familiar names did well such as Jan and Daws, I felt both did well in commanding the backline. Rose and Walker did well on the left and right, however there were a few mistakes that were unforced. Lloris however showed his usual high standards and was unbeatable when called upon.
Dembele did well but I felt that he held onto the ball too long at times and took one too many touches at times (which was unlike him), however he hit a fierce shot that was just over. Lennon and Sigurdsson have similar issues taking too many touches. Sigurdsson's shooting was not up to scratch (except for his blisstering strike that was well saved). Lennon may have won the penalty, but again I am concerned about the amount of shots that he fails to take and lays the ball off instead.
JD produced some great runs, but his shooting was also questionable.
Forget it though fellow fans, we won and being the first game (away too) I will take the 3 points happily and feel that we were unlucky not to have scored more.
Did we miss Bale? Do we need Lamela and Eriksen? I feel Bale was missed, but it was due more to the fact that 3 of our four new signings started today (so some settling is needed). With Lamela and Eriksen we will certainly dominate more games and create more chances for the likes of Soldado, but again it is too early to tell if those rumours have any truth to them.
More of it lads today was a good day, just nit picking (as all fans do).
COYS!!!
