He had to bide his time to get into the squad but there was no doubt that when he broke into the first team it would be for keeps.
This season Lloris has shown that his experience in the Ligue 1, Champions League and for his national team has been highly valued.
So when our No.1 comes out and says something we all need to listen.
"We want to be in the next Champions League but we know that if we don't get three points against Southampton our chance will be finished,"
Is it really as dramatic as that? I don't think so, but I agree with the idea behind it. If we lose or draw it is a big blow and mentally for the players it is certainly not a good thing. Win and the momentum continues and builds up. We should not accept anything less than a win, but the players must show up for the game and have prepared well for it.
Bale is still injured but playing through the pain, so this means that the rest of the team must make up for where Gareth lacks. This is what a team should do. If someone is not performing, the team must drag him up with them, but up their own work rate. It is what a team is all about. Helping each other and the team as a whole.
I love that Hugo has come out and stated this, as hopefully it signals the intent of the team and the manager, but given the severity of the games left we have no choice but to make intentions clear.
If we win 3 of our games and one of those is against Chelsea I would be surprised if we didn't get a top 4 finish. However I do not want any last minute jitters and would mu as Hugo, we cannot go into any game thinking of a loss. I have visualised winning all 4 and if we lose any of these games it is quickly put behind me, as we will still (statistically) be in with a shot (whether we rely on other teams or not).
I am excited as its well within our grasp and I see no reason for not qualifying. Get behind me and get behind the team, as I will gladly be the first one out cheering the lads on no matter what!
