Levy’s fantastic business acumen. Interesting one this, as Levy has failed on numerous attempts, but they are passed off as wins.
- Bale deal. This deal was seen as a large deal and some great negotiating from Levy. However he failed to agree the most important thing. Bale was to be sold and it was inevitable, however Real Madrid recouping their funds by selling to a direct competitor was an easy clause to agree on. Levy is now attempting to do the same with Holtby as Arsenal are looking to buy Draxler. However Schalke are already changing their stance, so Holtby arriving in Germany would make zero difference (seemingly).
- Real Madrid partnership. This urban legend has been banded about for years, however it always seems to come up when we fail in negotiations with Madrid. In both agreements for Modric and Bale we “agreed” to a partnership with Madrid and in almost two years the club have gained nothing from this partnership.
- Sponsor negotiations were seen as something of a speciality by Levy, however again he failed in achieving the expected funds from a well publicised sponsor.
Now I am not stating that I do not support Levy or that I do, but what I am saying is that we are basing our opinions on Levy on false information. There will come a time when Tottenham are left completely exposed and half of the fans will be baffled as to why.
A good chairman will negotiate well, however he would not do it to the detriment of future business, he would find the right staff to work with, make a long term plan that is stuck to (not adjust it whenever they see fit), then take what measures are needed to achieve said milestones.
Since Levy came into Tottenham has there been change? Yes definitely. Has there been some great signings? Again yes. But is there consistency in his reign? No.
I would like to see Levy stick to his guns. We supposedly want C.L. football and to achieve this we must go all out to achieve it.
Sherwood was not seen as the ideal candidate for any Spurs fan, however what a great choice it was. So Levy has saved a tremendous amount on his signing up. Now here is the tricky part..... How is Sherwood expected to achieve his goals with his hands tied behind his back? Two strikers is unheard for a team challenging for the top 4, so why risk it? Selling 3 new players and bringing in zero is suicide. Then to risk losing your best goal keeper in the summer if C.L. is not achieved is pure stupidity at its best.
If a chairman shows the players that he is ambitious, but we narrowly fail in C.L. football there is trust and the players will want to stay.
For the squad to be capable of moving forward a new striker is imperative and seems anyone refuse’s to use Lamela or Townsend on the left a left midfielder is needed and of course a back up left back.
If you expect to move forward, you don’t stand still and look over your shoulder. You look forward and concentrate on your target, at least if you fail it’s not because you didn’t try in the first place!
