Jackson Martinez has been mooted as the "replacement" for Damiao in our transfer shopping list. Interestingly enough he is another player from Porto!
Now forgive me if I am wrong but we failed to buy Falcao going back before Porto purchased him (we even made enquiries when he was a Porto), but we failed. As we did for Hulk and Moutinho. So for me this transfer is unlikely to happen.
Supposedly Porto value this Columbian at over £30million already (even though he has only played one season)! The reason for this is because in 28 appearances for Porto the striker has amassed 29 goals. You can understand why the forward is rated highly, but over £30million? That’s not bad for a player that for 3 seasons did not score a single goal!!! I do not kid you, but this was back in his early years. However his past 5 seasons have seen him finish with the below goals to games ratio;
0.45 08/09 Independiente Medellín
0.82 09/10 Independiente Medellín
0.51 10/11 Chiapas
0.71 11/12 Chiapas
0.84 12/13 Chiapas/ Porto
Impressive stats and I have to say only a step backwards in his ratio came in his first big move to Chiapas, since then it has grown and rapidly.
Going on Porto's track record of buying great South American forward's you would have to expect Martinez to be destined for big things, but to spend over £30million on a striker unheard of until this season? I think it is a big risk. If you ask me Soldado is becoming more and more the man as he would be cheaper and has been producing goals at the peak of La Liga.
So thoughts anyone? I think this is just a paper story with no legs behind it, certainly not at the price quoted.
Wonder who will be linked to next? Personally I think we should get a man on the inside at Porto and buy their targets up before they get a chance ("wink wink").
