Hodgson reveals that Townsend received a slight knock from Friday's game, but yet there had not been any clear reports of this until yesterday. Townsend has not confirmed this himself either so something doesn't quite feel right?
Many pundits commented on how great Townsend played and how great he had been playing (other than Michael Owen who just warned the midfielder?). However they also mentioned that Hodgson might not use him tonight. How this is plausible I do not know, but it seems to me that Hodgson does not have the confidence or maybe that he is receiving pressure from elsewhere?
I have to be honest and say that I am an avid football fan, but my interest in our national team has dropped off to a dramatic state. Ridiculous you may say, but I have no interest in a national team that is not run right. We said for years we would change things at grass roots to change our future, but we have done nothing! We then are fortunate enough to have some great youngsters come through, but they are not shown the amount of respect as previous youngsters (Owen, Rooney, Hart).
The reason I mention this is that if Townsend is not fit I do not want him to be risked so that he is injured and causes issues for Tottenham!
Being a football fan is quite confusing at times with all the political rubbish that goes with it. I would rather a manager is truthful and states I do not know if he's ready or I am getting pressure to play someone else. I want a manager with a large pair that will come out and say it was a poor performance and forget this “their were some great individual performance” to hide their failure as a manager. Hodgson does not seem this guy, which is why I question the late news from yesterday afternoon.
I hope that Andros is fit and plays tonight; he will set the world alight with his performances as he did on Friday.
To Hodgson; If he's fit you're an idiot not to play him, if he's not fit don't risk him and play someone else!
