The now dreaded second half of the season has caught us off guard again and yes that has coincided with Arsenal's resurgence, but my interest has grown intense. The rivalry has never been so clear with Arsenal players having to resort to brainless jibes in an attempt to put the lads off (You could say its worked). Arsenal fans have been panicking all season with the lillywhites being above them for the majority of the season so far. But as long as we get one of the coveted Champions League spot should we panic?
I say no. Never before have we pushed Arsenal so much (ok forget the "poisoned" end to a season), but more importantly pushed for the title. We have pushed on dramatically in terms of player growth and if we maintain a Champions League spot I can't see why Levy wouldn't finally invest the needed cash to really have a push. With the players we have and a some injection of fresh world class talent we will surpass this year and show what we are truly capable of.
Many names are being linked to us every day now, I work with a Utd fan and we laugh at the amount of speculation that the pathetic rumour churns out on a daily basis. I would love to see Hazard, Remi, Krul and 2 defenders (but unsure of who I would have yet) come in. Most importantly I would love to see Adebayor stay as 11 assists and 12 goals is a good return, he just needs to add another 8 goals as far as I am concerned (which I think is more than possible). Until the end of the season (unless we see a confirmed signing, which is unlikely) I couldn't care a less. The one thing I really hope for is that Podolski does not go to Arsenal, if he does its a massive achievement for them.
In terms of players pushing on Kaboul has looked great this season (although a few rookie mistakes still creep in), Walker has been a revelation for me at right back (and once Lennon is fit and playing well its an awesome power to stop), Bale has scored the most goals in a season in his career (although I still want to see more, as he goes quiet in games of recent), but the one thing that has without a doubt pushed us on is Brad Friedel. The strength between the sticks has given the defenders the confidence they needed to really show what they are capable of. Gomes has the potential, but really just couldn't concentrate for long enough to give us the true push that we needed. I for one hope that Brad stays on for at least another season whilst we bring a new Keeper and get him accustomed to our game.
The question that most of you do not need to ask is why, as this is obvious…. Levy and Redknapp are a match made in heaven. Levy gets the results he wants and Redknapp has the backing (financially most importantly). SO could you really see either agreeing on a parting of company? Of course not they'ed both be completely mad!
So although we have stumbled, we will pick ourselves up and I for one have full faith that the lads will push as hard as they can and give their all……. as lets face it everyone wants to play in the Champions League and every Tottenham player wants to finish against Arsenal.
Come On You Spurs
