Ian Rush: Bale should stay

Last updated : 31 July 2013 By Hoggg

Wales legend Ian Rush has put his opinion across to Gareth. An unbiased opinion that should count. Finally someone that Bale can trust that has no hidden agenda!

“There are challenges in moving abroad and it can take time to adjust, and I feel the ideal age to play overseas is when you are nearer 28. You can cope much better then.

From a Welsh football point of view it would be great to see Gareth in Spain because it would show just how quickly he has developed and he will only get better. I don’t think Tottenham would see it that way, though.

You can understand the temptation for him, of course. When Real Madrid want to sign you it is an opportunity you have to consider. If the message comes to him Spurs are happy for him to discuss the move, that will be all the signal he needs to go.”

Giggs will advise Bale he’s be better off at Utd (you can understand why), Modric being ex Spurs and current Madrid would tell him to move to Madrid and so would all of the Madrid setup. Of course they would. Everyone has a hidden agenda though.

However Ian Rush is a legend to take advice from. If you are offered a large contract to stay and the offers will always be there, why not grow first. In my opinion you’d soon see that the right team isn’t Madrid. This way you don’t make mistakes and you don’t burn bridges. We’ve all seen what happened to Di Maria, VDV, Sneijder etc their careers were almost completely destroyed by moving there.

My comments are obviously bias and I would expect him to listen to Rush as it suits our club, if he said to leave I would not have published this. However secretly I would know he is the one for Bale to listen to.

Whoever is advising Bale at the moment could be feeding him bad advice that could do a lot of damage to him financially if he left (BT, EA Sports etc), so I hope he is listening to what Rush has said. As Rush said you have to be 100% and if you’re not then it will cause more damage than good.

If Bale does actually want to leave, but stayed on this season to help us achieve Champions League he would have earned the fans respect by giving it one more year as he said he would. Potentially he could be writing history. If he leaves, well it is unlikely that he will win the EPL as I think he would then do a Beckham and travel the leagues a bit (who wouldn't).

All fans in football are used to disappointment though, it’s a huge part of the game whether it be losing a game, a player, a cup, but what we should not have to put up with is our players or staff losing respect for us and the club. Forget the contracts, the money, the fame, respect is what is important and without that there’s nothing! Should he go? I will be gutted, but as I said above it’s just part of the game we love!

COYS!!!
