From start to finish our defence gave little to concern me about. Dawson and Chiriches bossed the box well, Jan and Walker on the wings made the defence well balanced converting defending into attack.
Jan was without a doubt my man of the match, however Tim Howard came up as Squawka's Man of the Match and Townsend second? I am uncertain of this as Squawka only gave the defender 31 points? No player on the pitch made more penetrating runs than anyone and I believe that jan made the most important tackle of the game (well I have to call it a tackle as the ref did not blow for a penalty).
Going forward throughout the game we had the better chances and without a doubt should have won the game (not that we necessary deserved to). Although we did struggle to get the ball into the box for those definitive chances.
If you look at the game closely Everton held us at the edge of the box throughout the game and the slim chances that came in the box were very few and far between. Likely the best chance of the game fell to Soldado after a cross into the box from Lennon found him in space. Soldado headed wide, but should of scored.
Other chances came outside of the box, which Everton certainly did well to hold the attacks off. Howard made saves from Sandro and Andros early on then Andros and Sigurdsson late on, but nothing to cause him serious problems.
The midfield continue to improve (which is great) but we are still failing to provide Soldado with the support and service that he needs to take advantage of the opposition.
Eriksen was brought into the game far too late and although again Holtby played well, he was expected to put pressure on high up the pitch rather than carve out those important chances for Soldado.
I agree that Lennon was subbed off, but again why not give Lamela the chance? With a late injection of pace it is certainly something that would have pushed Everton into further mistakes.
There are so many positives to take form the game, but still there is the issue of scoring goals, but I am sure that this will change in time.
One thing that I have not mentioned is how well the defence handled Lukaku. There was one small chance he had in which the ball flashed across goal, but Dawson and Chiriches did well to keep him out of our box with the ball.
Some decent chances could and should have come from our corners, but we failed to get on the end of any of the balls coming in, or maybe it is just that Everton’s defence is very strong (point wise it is still the best in the league according to Squawka.
So a happy Spurs fan indeed, a little disappointed with the gutless excuse for a ref, but another away clean sheet is great. So essentially joint 2nd now separated only by goal difference. Once the midfield get up to scratch with creating those much needed low crosses and cut backs from the byline we will see Soldado flourish and come into his own. It is at that point that we shall see a team capable of challenging for the top spots in the league.
