Back on the 28th March I predicted that we would need 74 points to guarantee C.L. football. Now although this has never been the case before we have seen a big increase of quality in the league and it has raised the bar for all teams. So it’s of no surprise that for the first time in the EPL 74 points is needed to have guarantee 4th.
Ok enough gloating my head will explode. If we still secure Champions League football I believe that we will be the first team to do the amount of goals scored by us (as in the lowest). Again I must point out to the many fans that believed we had enough up front, Levy & Lewis failed to obtain a striker in Jan or a second in the summer, which essentially cost us at least 1 extra win). Another forward would have got us that little extra bit (even Saha got 3 goals for us), that could have been another 3 points minimum!
However we must also think about 2 other players, both have been missing for an important chunk of the season (this was brought to my attention by a loyal reader);
Without Sandro and Kaboul we have managed to leak more goals and many of these were ridiculous goals (down to rookie mistakes and poor organisation). I will take in account that Jan is new (but he has performed well), but we have had too many lapses in concentration that you have to ask if it would have been different with Sandro and Kaboul in the team?
So a big game in 2 days. Hopefully Lennon, Walker and Huddlestone have pulled their socks up and are going to be ready, we need every player working hard and pushing for this much needed win.
