However we are not set to lose the striker just yet as he is expected to stay beyond the transfer window and make his way to Toronto in March.
The chatter of Defoe's expected departure came as early as November and most importantly the phone call from Toronto public face Drake was potentially one of the deciding factors, that and the £90k per week he is supposedly being offered.
As you will all remember Defoe made a name for himself after scoring 18 goals for the Cherries (10 of which came in 10 consecutive games).
Defoe has scored some great goals and important goals whilst at Tottenham and like many others I will be sad to see him go, but on the flip side I feel that £6million for the striker is a good price.
In terms of how he will fair in the MLS I think we should expect to see Defoe continue his goal scoring form, but certainly pick it up in a league that he is very capable in.
I would like to wish him luck as I am sure the rest of the fans would and wish him all the best for his future in Canada. Fingers crossed we will still see more of him in the games to come up until his departure.
