The 32 year old stopper has 20 caps for Spain and the only thing that stopped him from getting more was arch rivals keeper Casillas. However his name is just as big and his experience just as great.
He has been Barcelona's No1 for the past 10 years, but damaging his cruciate ligament back in March in a 3-0 victory against Celta Vigo saw Barca’s best keeper for the past decade make an early exit before his contract expired.
It is for this reason that many big clubs have dropped out with Europe’s elite now looking elsewhere.
What better way to jump to the front of the line and give this legend the opportunity to continue his career. I realise that he will be seen as a risk with such a serious injury to his knee, but it is worth inviting the stopper to the hosptial and checking on just how serious his injury is?
There is a multitude of free agents this year and with the likes of Gomis, Menez, Lescott and Valdes all available for free, surely it is worth making them all an offer? Them in for free and selling numerous fringe players and dead wood would put the club in a fantatic position. Come on Poch get the squad numbers ready!
