Younes Kaboul has been an outstanding defender since returning to Spurs. It must have been very frustrating to be watching from the sidelines for all those months.
However Kaboul has been deemed fully fit and made his come back against Sheriff (from another minor injury).
He is known for his physical prowess, but also has a lot of pace to his game. So for me we missed him in the first half against Newcastle.
Dawson was found searching for his mark throughout the first half and it was disappointing to watch him lose his man time and time again. I lost count the amount of times Remy ran past Dawson and was then left unmarked.
Following Chiriches injury Kaboul came on at half time and instantly the defence seemed capable of coping with whatever Newcastle threw at them.
Is there more to it that Younes did not start?
I am a Dawson fan, but he has a tendency to lose his man too often, then does not have the pace to catch him. When working alongside an experiences defender his confidence and game improve's, however it is now that we need a centre back that can work well alone. Kaboul for me is this man.
Chiriches and Kaboul are the best choice to have at the back with Vertonghen and Walker on the wings (whilst Rose is injured). I really hate to sound negative these days but we were at sixes and sevens in the first half defensively and that is something that we can now rarely afford.
Come on AVB it's about time to realise that Dawson is a great man and can be the difference on the day, but we have better CB's in our squad that will sure up the holes being left at the back.
